Archer

The Archery officer is responsible for ensuring that archers in the local branch receive proper training and that all archery activities are conducted safely. The Minister of Archery oversees the administration of weapon standards, range safety, maintaining Shire weaponry, and follows the rules as set by the Kingdom of An Tir for archery.

 

Archivist and Fundraiser

Archivist
The Archivist keeps and safely stores the Shire's Archives. She gathers archival materials such as publications and photographs and makes materials available for display or for research within the Shire.

Fundraiser
The Fundraiser helps the shire keep funds in the bank account. She tracks funding needs and helps officers raise money for their own offices. The Fundraiser also needs to know the mundane and kingdom laws.

 

Arts and Sciences

The Arts and Sciences Officer facilitates SCA members in their artistic and scientific endeavors. They do this by being a resource, arranging to have classes taught on diverse subjects, holding competitions and finding other ways to inspire people's interest in the Arts and Sciences. Some of the arts and sciences from the Middle Ages and Renaissance that we study are making of clothing, cooking, heraldry, smithing and armory, music, games, and so on.

 

Bard

The job of Bard is to promote the bardic arts in the shire of Shittimwoode. This is a deputy of the Arts and Sciences officer.

 

Chatelaine

The Chatelaine's office is responsible for providing an introduction to the Current Middle Ages to new or prospective members; for advising newcomers of the conventions of the Society, their Kingdom and branch; and for encouraging participation in the group. The Chatelaine can provide access to educational information such as handouts, booklets and other materials. In all of these activities, the Chatelaine's duty is to represent the SCA accurately and favorably, and to encourage all members to do likewise.

 

Chirurgeon

A Chirurgeon provides first aid at branch events. The word "Chirurgeon" is a medieval word from which the modern term "Surgeon" is derived. The members of the Chirurgeonate are Red Cross trained first aiders. They are united as members of the Chirurgeonate for one purpose: to provide first aid at SCA events. A Chirurgeons' Warrant crosses Kingdom boundaries.

 

Chronicler

The Chronicler is responsible for producing newsletters which keep SCA members informed about events and activities within the area that the newsletter services and which educate their readers about aspects of the middle ages. Branch chroniclers are also responsible for keeping minutes of the branch business meetings.

 

Constable

A Constable's primary duties are to see that participants at Society events have an enjoyable time because the site is safe. At events constables greet people at the gate, provide information, and maintain a lost and found service. They assist people as needed. They patrol the camping, parking, and merchant areas as safety and security personnel. The constables make sure that fires are kept under control, that beehives or wasp nests are marked, and that lost children are returned to their parents. They gather information and report incidents to the appropriate authorities. They act as a liaison between the autocrat, the modern authorities and the populace at the event.

 

Dean of Pages

The Preceptor of the College of Pages is responsible for guiding and educating children ages twelve to seventeen about aspects of both our historical period of study and about the Society, while helping them to enjoy their medieval experience. Through the use of a structured a system of challenges and tests the pages develop demonstrable knowledge of our medieval world and the skills to function within it. The College has developed a ranking system based on these tests. This is designed to recognize and praise the service contributions of these younger members of our society. The Kingdom Preceptor is responsible for coordinating the rank challenges throughout the Kingdom.

 

Ether Bunny

The Ether Bunny is the Shire's Web Minister. It is the Ether Bunny's job to keep the public informed about Shire activities through electronic publication. The Ether Bunny should stay in touch with the populace at large so as to know what types of information people want to know via the web pages. This is a deputy to the Chronicler.

 

Exchequer

The Exchequer is the Shire's financial officer. The Exchequer is responsible for handling all of the SCA funds, and maintaining the financial records of their branch.

 

Gold Key

The Gold Key is the Chatelaine's deputy in charge of maintaining, organizing, and making available the group's supply of loaner garb for events.

 

Herald

The Herald makes announcements, handles courts and ceremony, tracks awards, and assists in the process of registering the names and devices of branch members.

 

Lists

This person is in charge of the non-combat aspects of the tournaments that are run by the branch. These duties include signing up competitors to participate in the tournament, determining pairings and maintaining the standings during the tournament, and perserving the results. It is a deputy position that reports to the Minister of Stables.

 

Minutes

The Minute taker assists the Chronicler with taking minutes at business meetings for the Shire.

 

Pied Piper

Branch Pied Pipers are responsible for organizing children's activities at SCA events. Children's activities should be considered as an integral part of event planning, so that a suitable location can be set aside. Pied Piper activities can be simple: a coloring station set up with crayons and paper, a set of blocks, and other basic toys for drop-in play. Or they can be contests and tournaments, depending on the level of interest and help available. If possible, keeping toys and activities reasonably authentic, or at least not shockingly modern, is best. The amusement and enjoyment of the children should be the main priority.

 

Rapier

The minister of Rapier is responsible for ensuring that rapier fighters in the local branch receive proper training and that all SCA rapier combat is conducted safely. The minister of Rapier oversees the administration of armor standards, conventions of combat, rules of the lists and makes sure that equipment conforms to the required standards of the kingdom regulations listed in the An Tir Book of Combat.

 

Seneschal (Seneschale)

The Seneschale is the legal representative of a branch. Seneschales sign all contracts, make sure that things are done pursuant to the restrictions of all modern and SCA laws, work with the Chatelaine to handle all public relations, and normally conduct the business meetings. The Seneschale coordinates the branch officers.

 

Stables

The minister of Stables, or branch marshal, is responsible for ensuring that fighters and marshals in the local branch receive proper training and that all SCA combat is conducted safely. The branch marshal oversees the administration of armor standards, conventions of combat, rules of the lists and makes sure that equipment conforms to the required standards of the kingdom regulations listed in the An Tir Book of Combat.

 

Thrown Weapons

The minister of Thrown Weapons is responsible for ensuring that thrown weapon fighters in the local branch receive proper training and that all thrown weapon activities are conducted safely. The minister of Thrown Weapons oversees the administration of weapon standards, range safety, maintaining Shire weaponry, and follows the rules as set by the Kingdom of An Tir for thrown weapons.

 

Watberbearer

The Waterbearer's office is responsible for ensuring that fighters and other involved in martial activities have adequate water and refreshments so as to keep the Chirurgeon not busy.

 

Youth Combat

This person is in charge of promoting and encouraging the youth combat activities of the branch, those combat activities open to people 15 years and younger. It is a deputy position reporting to the Minister of Stables.
